Property Taxes & Treasurer
Pay current Township property taxes, review important due dates and payment policies, or find help with delinquent taxes and state resources.
Important billing & due dates
Due dates move to the next business day when they fall on a weekend or legal holiday. Your tax bill controls if it lists a different date.
Receiving and paying your tax bill
Property-owner responsibilities
- Property owners are responsible for knowing a tax bill is due and obtaining a copy if one is not received.
- Notify the Township when your mailing address changes. Not receiving a bill does not remove interest or penalties.
- Michigan law requires the property owner to receive the original tax bill.
- If an agent pays your taxes, the agent should request a current bill each summer and winter season.
Mail and drop-box payments
- The Township drop box is checked daily. Payments deposited on or before the due date are considered timely.
- A receipt is available on request for a drop-box payment.
- Checks for current taxes should be payable to Pleasant View Township.
Interest, penalties & delinquent taxes
Michigan law limits a treasurer’s ability to remove interest and penalties. Contact the Township promptly if a payment will be late.
Interest of 1% per month is added after the summer due date. On February 15, the Township may add the authorized 3% late penalty.
After February 14, the Township may add the authorized 3% late penalty before taxes are returned delinquent.
Unpaid real-property taxes are transferred to the Emmet County Treasurer. Payments must then be made through the County and are subject to additional charges.
Contact the Township for current taxes or Emmet County for delinquent taxes before submitting payment.
Current MCL 211.44 permits a 3% late penalty after February 14; County interest begins after delinquent taxes transfer March 1. Your tax bill and the responsible Treasurer’s payoff amount control.
